‘It kills him,’ says former Everton ace of one thing that had the £100k-a-week star ‘in tears’

Dominic Calvert-Lewin of Everton appears to be in good form.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored for Everton once more on Wednesday night, as the Toffees defeated Aston Villa 2-1 in an EFL Cup match. Calvert-Lewin scored the game-winning goal early in the second half.

The 26-year-old now has two goals in two games after scoring against Brentford in the Premier League the previous time out.

Everton’s season will be transformed if Calvert-Lewin is fit and firing. He was a significant loss for Everton last season, as injuries destroyed his career once again.

The 11-cap England international’s ability to consistently play and impress at Goodison Park has been severely limited by recurrent physical difficulties over the last two seasons.

Former Everton winger Andros Townsend is overjoyed to see Calvert-Lewin on the rise once more. He saw firsthand the impact those injuries had on the £100,000-per-week striker. “For Dominic, it was not about pressure to come back and save Everton; it was for his own sake,” he told the BBC. He needed to get back into shape.”

“Every time he got hurt, it killed him because he’s not the type of player who doesn’t care about football.” He does not live a lifestyle that he should not. He goes to great lengths to ensure he is the best he can be in terms of nutrition, gym, and therapy – he invests a lot of money.”

“It kills him every time he breaks down.” He was in tears at the end of last season because every time he got going, something else went.”

Calvert-Lewin is ready to go Sean Dyche will be desperate for Calvert-Lewin to stay fit for an extended period of time. If the attacker can achieve that, he has the ability to set the Toffees up for a relegation struggle.

The manager must also ensure that the player is protected. Everton paid £26 million to recruit Beto from Udinese in the recent summer transfer window, so there is now another striker on the books who can relieve Calvert-Lewin’s pressure and play enough to keep the Englishman from feeling the strain of having to start week in, week out.

Calvert-Lewin has to get his career back on track, and he’ll be hoping that his recent form indicates that the worst of his injury concerns have passed him by.
