West Ham must ensure they are first in line for a Euro player when his representation expresses interest.

West Ham United must beat Tottenham to sign Sassuolo winger Armand Lauriente.
Armand Lauriente’s agent has confirmed that West Ham attempted to recruit the Sassuolo winger during the summer transfer window.

Lauriente is not a household name, but he has drawn interest from Tottenham Hotspur and Serie A giants Napoli, among others.

However, as TuttoMercatoWeb reported [26 September], “he prefers a second season in Sassuolo to confirm himself.”

Rather than seizing the opportunity to join a larger group, Lauriente is content to wait.

With his 25th birthday approaching, that is a bold move, but the dynamic striker certainly believes in his ability to improve.

And that has been the case thus far this season, with Lauriente scoring one goal and assisting another in five Serie A games.

This features a long-range strike that caught Wojciech Szczesny off guard as Sassuolo won 4-2 on Saturday [23 September].

According to Transfermarkt, the former France U21 international has assisted on 22% of Sassuolo’s league goals this season.

Lauriente also has the most completed dribbles per game of any West Ham player this season [WhoScored].

West Ham do not need a new left-sided attacker, but Lauriente has the ability to move into a more central role.

He is a right-footed player on the left, like Kylian Mbappe at PSG and another Frenchman in Thierry Henry at Arsenal further back.

To be fair to the player, West Ham – and others – have certainly found something in the Rennes academy product that they like, and he appears to be on the rise.

As a result, the Hammers must ensure that they are still in the running to sign Lauriente when he leaves Sassuolo in 2024.

In other West Ham news, David Moyes’ decision on Wednesday [27 September] might save the club millions.
