Everton’s recent run of form has come just in time following a difficult start to the season.
Pressure was mounting on the players and Sean Dyche following four losses in five games prior to their triumph over Brentford, but the tone has drastically altered in four days.
Not only was the Brentford win impressive, but the away triumph over Unai Emery’s side was also impressive at Villa Park.
The club has struggled for consistency in recent years, dating back to Carlo Ancelotti’s departure, resulting in certain unpleasant records developing over that time.
Everton won back-to-back away games against top-flight opposition in the FA Cup against Aston Villa for the first time since April-May 2021, and the first time in front of fans since August-September 2016.
Furthermore, it was the first time Everton had won away at two top-flight clubs in the space of a week since March 2014, when they triumphed 3-0 at Newcastle and 3-1 at Fulham.
Unfortunately, their home form has been an issue so far this season; with losses to Fulham, Wolves, and Arsenal, things began to seem dismal and increasingly frustrating after missing multiple scoring chances.
They dominated Fulham and Wolves, with 34 shots between the two games, and their consecutive away wins have engendered renewed belief and confidence that they can adapt such form to Goodison Park, where they have yet to score this season.
Fortunately, their confidence has returned just in time as they prepare to face relegation rivals Bournemouth and Luton Town in their next two games.
Luton appear to be available for the taking, and these are undoubtedly crucial points that Dyche’s team cannot afford to lose.
