Everton look to have faith in Kevin Thelwell, with a potential Goodison Park arrival on the horizon.
According to the Liverpool Echo, Everton are close to announcing the recruitment of Phil Boardman to their backroom team.
On Friday [29 September], Chris Beesley of the outlet’s online version stated that Boardman will join Everton as a European scout.
Boardman is now employed at Portsmouth, where he has worked for the previous six years, but is thought to be serving a notice period before leaving.
The expected appointment of new transfer personnel could be viewed as a challenge to director of football Kevin Thelwell.
However, because they had worked together at Wolves, Thelwell may have had a say in the Toffees’ approach for Boardman.
That means the two will rejoin at Goodison Park to work on Everton’s overseas transfer objectives.
It’s a vote of confidence in Thelwell, who was under increasing pressure as the club struggled to close deals throughout the summer window.
According to a recent story in The Telegraph [15 September], Thelwell’s employment appears to be safe, and this appears to have been confirmed.
This must eventually be considered as a positive development since it ensures some stability high above during a time of uncertainty behind the scenes.
With 777 Partners attempting to complete a takeover, there could be more money to play with in the January window.
If that’s the case, the sooner Boardman can start collaborating with Thelwell, the better.
