‘I was really, really angry’: £15m Wolves star slams how he played in one pre-season game
Sasa Kalajdzic has revealed he hated his performance on his first game back after injury against Blackpool in pre-season for Wolves.

The Austrian is the subject of a documentary that Wolves have made about his knee injury.

Kalajdzic sustained an ACL injury on his debut last season, causing him to miss the rest of the 2022/23 season.
It was a devastating blow for the 26-year-old.

But he has worked extremely hard to get back fit, and Kalajdzic has already chipped in with a couple of goals for Wolves this season.

He is still seemingly building back up to full match fitness and sharpness. But it’s fantastic that he is available again.

Wolves released the final part of the documentary today – and Kalajdzic gave a very honest assessment of his pre-season return…

Sasa Kalajdzic admits he was so unhappy with how he played against Blackpool in first game back in pre-season

Kalajdzic was always going to find his first game back tough.

He had not played for so long, and no amount of training can really replicate proper match conditions, even in pre-season.

Wolves played against Blackpool in pre-season and played four 30-minute periods. Kalajdzic played the third 30-minute period.

Reflecting back on his performance, the 6ft 7in striker said: “That was maybe the first time I forced myself into pressure. Force myself into ‘I have to do something, I have to score a goal, I have to achieve something’. This is where I struggled in that game.

“Sometimes it looks funny when I get the ball because I’m really tall and everything looks a little bit weird. And it’s just about getting coordination and gaining trust in your body. Because you haven’t done things for almost a year and then suddenly you’re back with it.

“I didn’t play horrible but I didn’t play as I thought. I just wanted to maybe score the first goal. I was really, really angry and not satisfied with my performance. People came to me and said ‘What’s up Sasa?’ I was like ‘It was not a good game’, and they were like ‘Calm down, it’s your first game after 11 months, please forget this game, it’s not about how you played, just getting a feeling, getting back to it’.

Kalajdzic’s frustrations understandablE

It is fascinating to hear Kalajdzic speak about his first game back after his injury.

The £15 million star was clearly so determined to make some kind of impression, when it was only really about him getting a feel for football again.

That perhaps offers a little insight into his mind.

Hopefully, Kalajdzic will be able to put his knee injury firmly behind him, and played a big part for Wolves this season and provide more brilliant moments like against Everton.
