West Ham made a huge mistake by not signing this great striker

West Ham United made a huge mistake by not signing Taiwo Awoniyi as a long-term successor for Michail Antonio.

Nottingham Forest won the fight to recruit Taiwo Awoniyi in the summer of 2022 after West Ham declined to sign him at the London Stadium.

The East London club apparently had the opportunity to recruit the 26-year-old for as little as £16.7 million 14 months ago.

However, Hammers manager David Moyes decided not to bring the Nigeria international to East London.

Instead, the Scot brought Gianluca Scamacca to the London Stadium. He was a colossal failure who was completely unsuited to our system.

Why, oh why, did Moyes not sign Awoniyi? He would have made an excellent successor for Michail Antonio…

West Ham made a blunder by failing to recruit Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi.

Since joining Forest from Union Berlin last summer, the Nigerian has been nothing short of spectacular.

Awoniyi has 14 goals and three assisted in 38 outings for the Reds in all competitions (Transfermarkt).

But it’s not just his goal totals that have been spectacular; it’s also the manner he occupies opposition defenders that has drawn attention.

With his strength, unselfish running, and 100% commitment, he would have been the ideal upgrade and long-term replacement for Antonio.

Signing Awoniyi for less than £17 million in 2022 would have been a no-brainer.

Moyes, on the other hand, elected not to bring him to the club. And it now appears that this was a major error.
