Dyche must now be on the lookout for the Everton player he let go after a fresh development today.

After being called up to Scotland, Sean Dyche must be on Nathan Patterson’s radar at Everton.
Nathan Patterson, despite his unjustly limited opportunities at Goodison Park, has received another Scotland call-up, putting Everton manager Sean Dyche on notice.

The former Rangers defender has struggled to get a start in recent games, with Dyche preferring Mykolenko and Young at left and right back, respectively, prompting speculation that Dyche no longer trusts the former Rangers defender.

The Scots officially confirmed their roster for the forthcoming October internationals on Thursday (4 October) via their official Twitter account, with the 21-year-old Everton defender likely to make his 16th international cap.

Despite his lack of regular playing time at Goodison Park, manager Steve Clarke believes in his ability to make an impact, but Dyche at Everton does not, with the former Burnley manager continuing to select Ashley Young, who has struggled in recent weeks.

His performance against the Hatters was the latest in a string of unimpressive and disastrous outings in his new surroundings.

Young played only 78 minutes, according to SofaScore, and was appropriately written off for Patterson, who should now be expected to replace him in the starting lineup from now on.

The former Aston Villa full-back won just one duels during the game, lost possession of the ball 11 times, finished only one of his four crosses, completed 0% of his dribbles, and, most importantly, committed a crucial mistake in the build-up to Luton Town’s first.

When the Glasgow-born full-back hits the field at Goodison Park, he offers an energy and aggression that Everton fans like and, arguably, have always needed throughout the years.

Young has been a very smart and reliable presence for Dyche, but his recent performances suggest that he isn’t the long-term option.

The forthcoming internationals will undoubtedly provide Dyche with the opportunity to ponder and modify tactics for when the Premier League begins, and one of those changes must undoubtedly be giving Patterson a continued role in the team given that he is now a full-fledged international.

Although the former Rangers man is still extremely raw and far from a polished product, his potential and international limelight merit a starting berth at Goodison Park above a past-his-best free transfer who should probably be relegated to a backup duty.

It’s unclear whether Dyche will make any changes for this weekend’s game against Bournemouth, but Patterson’s involvement for Scotland in high-profile games should be enough to put Dyche on notice that he has an ideal right-back solution right under his nose.

In unrelated Everton news, the club may face further takeover issues when one of 777 Partners’ clubs received a transfer embargo.
