Everton legend gets managerial job

According to journalist Alan Nixon, former Chelsea, Everton, and Derby County manager Frank Lampard is in the hunt for the vacant role at Scottish powerhouse Rangers.

Following the sacking of Michael Beale on Monday, the Glasgow-based club are looking for a new manager, with Championship managers John Eustace and Ryan Lowe reportedly on the shortlist. Following Rangers’ terrible start to the new season, in which they lost two of their first four games, the Birmingham City manager was reportedly being followed before the international break last month.

Beale survived, although temporarily, and Saturday’s 3-1 loss to Aberdeen proved the final straw, leaving the club seven points behind early pacesetters and fierce rivals Celtic.

Alan Nixon claims that former England international Frank Lampard is now’strongly in the frame’ for the job at Ibrox, with the 45-year-old looking to rebuild his managerial career after dreadful spells at Everton and Chelsea.

Lampard made his managerial debut in 2018 with then-championship club Derby County, and his stint at Pride Park was universally regarded as a success. Despite only having one season in command, he guided the Rams to the Premier League play-offs, only to lose narrowly to Aston Villa in the final at Wembley Stadium.

Following a move to old club Chelsea, he was fired in early 2021 after a bad run of form. Everton came calling after a year out of the game, but Lampard’s stint at Goodison Park was a nightmare, and he was fired again in January this year, leaving the team on the verge of relegation.

He was handed the Chelsea job on a temporary basis again in April, however he left the club for the second time with a record of one win in 11 games.

Author’s Opinion

Rangers want to build on their recent success with Steven Gerrard, who led the club to the Scottish Premiership title in 2021 before taking on his first Premier League role with Aston Villa. Lampard and Gerrard are frequently mentioned in the same breath because of their shared England careers as well as their recent move into management.

His reputation has been tainted by his recent Premier League stints, and he, like Gerrard, will need to relocate to another country to rehabilitate it. However, Rangers is a difficult task, and anything less than dethroning Celtic will be considered acceptable. It may be a difficult task for the former midfielder.
