‘I spoke to him,’ claims Everton summer signing Sean Dyche has previously attempted to sign him.

Ashley Young has stated that he and Sean Dyche may have rejoined much sooner than the summer.

In an interview with Sky Sports, the Everton defender said that the boss had long been interested in signing him before he arrived on Merseyside.

Young and Dyche have a long history together. While the former is still playing professional football after an outstanding career with some of England’s best clubs, the latter has been in management for years and has become one of English football’s most well-known individuals.

They have, however, previously played together. Dyche was on the verge of retiring when Young came from Watford’s development system, and their paths met for two years.

Fast forward 18 years, and the former Manchester United great has joined Everton under the management of his former friend.

Many supporters believed Young was ‘beyond it’ when he joined the Toffees, but he has maintained a regular spot in the team and has started all seven of their Premier League matches.

Dyche clearly like the veteran, and it’s no wonder that he was anxious to sign Young during his ten-year tenure at Burnley.

Young stated of working with Dyche, “It’s brilliant for me.” I knew when I was younger, you look at certain players and wonder which ones are going to be managers, and you could tell by the way he had leadership abilities and came into the dressing room, he would have respect for every player there.

“I talked to him a few years ago, and he tried to sign me.” After meeting with him during the summer, I knew I wanted to sign right away. “I’ve loved every minute of it.”
