After Everton defeated Bournemouth 3-0, Young posted on Twitter, saying: “Black armband worn for Lady Cathy, thinking of you Boss. RIP.” Within an hour of being posted, the social media post had received more than 10,000 “likes,” with hundreds of United supporters expressing their appreciation for the thoughtful gesture.
Young joined the Reds in 2011 after being acquired by Sir Alex from Aston Villa, and he went on to play over 250 Premier League appearances. After being named the team’s captain in August 2019, he left for Serie A powerhouse Inter Milan six months later.
The Everton fullback was a member of the United team that last won the Premier League championship under Sir Alex in 2013. During his eight and a half years at Old Trafford, he also won the FA Cup, the League Cup, and the Europa League.
