‘Stronger than ever,’ Everton midfielder reveals injury rehab update following latest setback

Dele Alli posts an injury update on social media following Everton’s disappointing loss.
Everton midfielder Dele Alli disclosed on social media that he has suffered a setback in his knee recovery but has pledged to “come back stronger.”

On Friday night (6 October), Alli posted on his Instagram account that there had been a “setback with the injury,” but that he is “making sure I come stronger than ever,” accompanying many photographs of himself in the gym.

Dele spent last season on loan at Besiktas before undergoing hip surgery in the off-season, from which he has already had one setback [Daily Mail, 9 August], and he revealed a variety of off-field issues in an emotional interview with Gary Neville (13 July).

Everton’s future is still in doubt.

Dele might be a force in the Everton first team in the near future as a result of his injury rehabilitation, and it would be premature to write him off.

Dyche’s comments about the Tottenham talks in September [Liverpool Echo, 23 September] clearly do not refer to Everton potentially terminating the deal, but rather to the club attempting to make it more financially sustainable given his injury recovery and future first-team opportunities.

The manner in which the Toffees negotiated the original arrangement in January 2022 was extremely contentious, a deal that might increase to £40 million if certain performance benchmarks are satisfied.

That is a lot of money, and those performance requirements aren’t being met right now, which is why Dyche revealed that Everton will return to the negotiation table with Spurs.

It appears that the former Burnley boss still believes in Alli, and as long as he is manager at Goodison Park, Alli will always have a chance to return to the first team, but that remains a long way off as he continues his recovery.

Everton could use the player they believed they signed back then right now, but it has to be seen whether Alli can return to those levels, which is far from assured at a club trying to fire on all cylinders in the Premier League.

In other Everton news, Dyche may have made a brilliant behind-the-scenes choice following recent contract news on Merseyside.
