In Everton’s 3-0 win over Bournemouth, Jack Harrison scored his first goal for the club.
Sean Dyche confessed that Jack Harrison overcame an injury to help inspire Everton to their first home win of the season.
The Toffees eventually won at Goodison Park on the fifth attempt, cruising to a 3-0 victory over AFC Bournemouth.
Harrison made his full Premier League debut for Everton after being out for several weeks with a hip injury following his loan move from Leeds United. Harrison was on target for his first Blues goal seven minutes before halftime, after James Garner started the scoring in the eighth minute.
Neto, the Bournemouth goalkeeper, punched a cross clear, with the ball falling for Harrison roughly 22 yards out. The winger didn’t need an invitation to shoot, as his controlled half-volley lobbed Neto and went in via the underside of the crossbar. On the hour mark, Abdoulaye Doucoure sealed the three points by crashing home after Harrison’s header was blocked.
Harrison was dealing with a slight hamstring injury before to the game. Meanwhile, Amadou Onana was named on the bench before being inserted into the starting lineup late in the game to replace the injured Idrissa Gana Gueye. Dyche was impressed by the pair, as well as Garner’s performance.
“Him [Onana] and Jimmy were very good,” Everton manager stated. In any case, Jimmy has been performing well. They’re both young players that are learning, wanting to learn, and pushing to develop. I think Jack Harrison was excellent. He was nursing a nagging hamstring injury, almost as if he wasn’t sure whether he should play or not. No, he answered, I want to play. “I thought he was very good, I thought the two centre-halves were very good, Dom will get fitter and sharper as he showed in patches today, Doucs lively – there were so many good performances,” said the coach.
Dyche believes Everton have been playing well this season but not getting the results they deserve, citing home losses to Fulham, Wolves, and Luton. The Goodison manager once again pointed to the expected goal metric to explain why his team has failed to win games in which they should have won.
“I’m really pleased for the group because when we win, the noise changes,” Dyche remarked. In my perspective, they were excellent against Luton. I have to see through some of the noise, I have to talk about it all the time because it’s essential, and I have to remind the players about their performances – but also that it doesn’t matter if they don’t win.
“You can keep performing well all season, but if you don’t win, people lose faith in your abilities.” The triumph was another terrific performance, another strong performance. It is reasonable to discuss xG when you have 25 efforts today and 23 in the previous game with an xG of three [goals] or higher. The xG is at its best point in eight years, I believe, but you must capitalize on it. You can’t keep waiting for something to happen; instead, we made it happen today. That is a mindset that must endure and want to flourish.”
