However, no deal was struck, and it was claimed that Maguire turned down their offer in order to remain at Old Trafford, although the centre-back denies this.

“Regular game time is really important to me, it has been throughout all my career,” he went on to say. “The opportunity to go to West Ham wasn’t really agreed upon between both clubs and myself, so it wasn’t just my chance to say ‘yes,’ which I did.”

“The actual opportunity didn’t exist because we didn’t pursue it far enough.” Although West Ham is a massive club, my primary concentration remains Manchester United. I want to battle for my spot, but game time is also very essential to me.”
