Everton have been connected with a move for Premier League defensive midfielder Kalvin Phillips, according to transfer reports, and journalist Fabrizio Romano has supplied an update on this potential purchase.
Everton and Newcastle were reportedly interested in Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips earlier this week, according to iNews.
Romano offered a transfer update in his daily briefing on Caught Offside on Kalvin Phillips. He went on to say: “Despite links with Newcastle and Everton, I’m not aware of concrete talks on this one”
“Phillips wanted to stay at City this summer despite some approaches, so he’s still focused on doing his best for City and then a decision will be made later, like November or December.”
Fabrizio Romano is unaware of any Everton negotiations regarding Kalvin Phillips, an English international who won the Premier League, Champions League, and FA Cup with Manchester City last season.
Despite this, his lack of playing time since joining the Premier League champions should deter Everton from pursuing a trade.
For the time being, it appears that the saga surrounding the ‘great’ player will drag on, with no decisions expected until November or December.
This should not concern Everton, as the midfield is perhaps one of their strongest positions in the squad at the moment.
With midfielders Abdoulaye Doucoure, James Garner, and Amadou Onana all having a strong start to the season, Everton boss Sean Dyche appears to have elite quality in the same position as Phillips.
It will be interesting to see what decision Phillips makes regarding his future, as his lack of playing time will almost likely be a major concern for him.
