Week 6 Friday Injury Report: Vonn Bell among those ruled out

CHARLOTTE – The Panthers faced a tough challenge, facing the league’s No. 1 offensive line without two starters in the secondary in Jaycee Horn and Xavier Woods.

It’s now three hours after veteran safety and signal-caller Vonn Bell (quadriceps) was ruled out for Sunday’s game against the Dolphins.

Bell did not participate in Friday’s practice and was among a group of five players who were ruled out of the game.

Also earning honors Friday were Miles Sanders (shoulder), Woods (hamstring), left guard Chandler Zavala (neck) and cornerback Giovanni Ricci (shoulder).

There was some good news, with defensive tackle Derrick Brown (knee/ankle) and outside linebacker Brian Burns (ankle) returning after being held out of practice Thursday. Both were on the field Friday, with Burns a full participant and Brown a limited participant. Both are listed as questionable for the game, but getting the defensive fundamentals will be key for a struggling secondary.

The Panthers will likely have to make some adjustments to their roster to fill the shortfall, as Sam Franklin Jr. has begun to take Woods’ place.

Tight end Ian Thomas (calf) was added to the report Friday and listed as questionable.

On the other hand, the remaining players on the 53-man roster listed in the report were all full participants on Friday and are out of competition status, meaning they are available to participate. Tight end Stephen Sullivan (hip) is listed as questionable, while guard Austin Corbett (knee) is sidelined as they remain on the injured reserve list and physically unable list corresponding competition. They have been authorized to train but have not yet been activated.
