It comes after several publications reported last Saturday that Merritt had been taken to the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Camperdown after being found unconscious on Friday afternoon.

The former NSW Blues winger was placed on life support after collapsing while staying with his aunt, and it has since been understood he suffered an adverse reaction to taking prescribed painkillers.

This also follows her sister, Teanne Merritt, providing an update on her situation a day after the news was announced.

The former Rabbitohs winger is third on the club’s all-time try-scorer list with 151 tries in 208 NRL games for the club. He also had a brief two-year spell with the Cronulla Sharks from 2004 to 2005.

His representative honors include one match for the NSW Blues in the 2013 State of Origin series, two appearances for the Australian Premier’s XIII, two matches for City Origin and three jerseys for the Indigenous All Stars – won won the Preston Campbell Medal in the 2012 All-Star Game.
