Bolton Wanderers is aiming to win promotion this season after failing to reach the third tier of English football last year.

Jon Dadi Bodvarsson and Cameron Jerome can leave for free at the end of the season if new contracts are not resolved.
The future of loan players Paris Maghoma and Zac Ashworth at Bolton will depend on the club’s decisions and their parent club’s plans.
Bolton Wanderers has had a pretty good start to their career this year in England’s third division.

The Trotters’ goal is clear this year: win promotion. They had a good chance of doing so last year, but ultimately fell short and they will be looking to respond this season by crossing the finish line and returning to the Sky Bet Championship.

So time will tell how they will make this work, but currently there are a number of players at the club who could leave for free at the end of the season unless new contracts are ironed out.

With the help of Transfermarkt, we now take a look at these players…

Jon Dadi Bodvarsson
Bodvarsson recently signed a new contract with the club earlier this summer, but it was a short-term deal and therefore his contract only runs until the end of this season.

“I’m really happy to extend my stay here at the club. It is a club that I am very proud to be a member of,” he said when signing the contract.

“My family and I felt right at home, and the fans and everyone in the community were amazing. The club’s direction and ambitions are also very positive. I want to be a part of it.

It’s nice to stick around for another year then and we’ll see if that feeling is the same next summer, depending on where Bolton are.

Experienced striker Jerome has made many appearances in the EFL and joined Bolton mid-last year from Luton on an 18-month contract.

The deal therefore expires next summer and nothing can be decided before the end of the current campaign.

He has been used extensively as a substitute this season in League One, regularly coming off the bench, and if Ian Evatt believes he can offer something next season then yes Perhaps another agreement will be made.

There aren’t many players currently in the final months of their contracts at Bolton, but there are a number of players on loan who are only contracted to stay at the club until the end of the year.

Paris Maghoma is one of them, having joined the club from Brentford in the Premier League and appears to have quickly settled in the North West.

Full-back Zac Ashworth is the remaining player on loan at the club at the moment, having joined from Championship side West Bromwich Albion.

Like Jerome, despite being at the end of his career as a veteran striker, he has mainly been used as a substitute this season, coming off the bench in a few matches in League One.

We will only know at the end of the season whether Bolton want to keep the pair longer and whether they do depends on the wishes of their parent club.
