Former top-5 NFC North QB
Without a doubt, one of the hottest teams entering the 2023 NFL season is the Detroit Lions, who nearly made the NFL playoffs last year after finishing the 2022 campaign on a strong note.
Much of the team’s success this season will depend on veteran quarterback Jared Goff’s ability to continue to play well after having his first Pro Bowl season in Detroit last year.
Fortunately for the Lions, Goff is living up to expectations at this point and has the potential to surpass them, as Detroit comes out firing on all cylinders after six games.
After outplaying Baker Mayfield and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 6, the Lions are 5-1 and appear ready to make a run for the NFC North division title, as they have a commanding lead over Green Bay significantly. Packer (2-3).
According to former NFL player Bryant McFadden, Goff is one of the five best quarterbacks in the league this season, via NFL on CBS.
While this may seem like a bold comment at first, Goff has done enough this season in leading his team to wins every week that he’s now in this conversation.
At this point, the San Francisco 49ers and Philadelphia Eagles may be the only teams in the NFC that can compete with the Lions, with much of the team’s success due to Goff’s play.
In six games thus far, Goff has passed for 1,618 yards, 11 touchdowns and three interceptions for a 69.5% completion rate.
Impressive numbers for a guy who was seemingly written off before being traded to the Lions a few years ago
