‘Finally’: Ginnivan opens up on Hawthorn move

Jack Ginnivan has revealed his excitement at arriving at Hawthorn from Collingwood.


Jack Ginnivan says his dream of “finally being awarded the maroon and gold” has come true after Collingwood’s premiership winner got his first day at Hawthorn following shock move in the inter-season AFL transactions.
A Hawks supporter as a boy, Ginnivan’s request to be traded to the club just two weeks after winning the premiership with the Magpies shocked the AFL world.
But the 20-year-old small forward said he couldn’t be happier after meeting some of his childhood idols, including coach Sam Mitchell, and donning the jersey for the first time as a a player.


“Finally, the dream has come true wearing maroon and gold. Obviously I used to barricade them,” Ginnivan said.
“One of my favorite players is Sam (Mitchell), growing up watching him, having his number on his back, those are the things you dream about as a kid and having it happen is so special apart.”

Ginnivan also said he has “copied” the shooting habits of veteran Hawks forward Luke Breust, who he will now be able to play with.
“It’s going to be pretty cool, Luke Breust is one of my idols… I’ve always wanted to play like him and I’ve dealt with his penalty shooting habits and things like that. “, he said.
“It would be great to stand next to him.”


Ginnivan said days after his decision to leave behind his top team-mates was “crazy” but he was was drawn toward the Hawks by his childhood ties and the enthusiasm of the team he believed he could build.
