Dolphins CB Jalen Ramsey’s knee injury details, likely reason for quick return

Dolphins cornerback Jalen Ramsey is close to returning to action after Miami opened up 21 days of practice on October 18.

Although the assumption was that Ramsey had a torn meniscus, requiring a full repair rather than a cut, that was not the case. Sources say Ramsey suffered a meniscus tear at the outer edge, which is different from a displacement tear and can be repaired with a spacer.
The players are expected to make a full recovery from both injuries. But doctors may feel more confident that they won’t have to repair a displaced tear instead of one that’s right next to the capsule. Repairs usually mean a refund in five or six months, which explains the initial idea that Ramsey would return in December.
But a meniscus tear at the outer edge — because it receives better blood flow — can heal faster, sometimes as early as 12 weeks, which is where Ramsey is now post-surgery art.
According to the head coach, Ramsey gave his all to the team that traded for him in a way that few injured players do.
Mike McDaniel told reporters last week: “I have never been around a guy who has gone through such a long rehab process and doesn’t miss team meetings or practices.”
Ramsey regularly stands on the sidelines cheering as if he were an active player.
When he will return is still a question. He was ruled out for tonight’s game against the Eagles and has two games remaining before the Dolphins’ Week 10 bye. McDaniel was asked if there was any chance Ramsey would return before the bye. “I think it’s fair to say there’s a chance,” McDaniel told reporters on Oct. 18. “I’m not going to do that — like the target date that I haven’t shared, because I will don’t do that. I know. You have to take it one day at a time with this stuff, but I would say I’m cautiously optimistic.
