Baltimore Orioles making significant changes to coaching staff.

Chris Holt Not Continuing As Orioles’ Pitching Coach, Remains Director Of Pitching

According to Roch Kubatko of MASNsports.com, Chris Holt will not be joining the Baltimore Orioles’ MLB staff in the capacity of pitching coach. He will stay with the team as director of pitching, where he has worked for a few seasons in addition to being pitching coach. Kubatko adds that Darren Holmes, the assistant pitching coach, is leaving the company completely. For what will be the manager’s sixth season, the remainder of Brandon Hyde’s team is anticipated to return.

The 44-year-old Holt joined Baltimore in 2019. He had previously been employed by the Astros, having followed Mike Elias, a longtime executive in Houston, to Baltimore upon his appointment as general manager. Holt was selected to serve on the MLB staff through 2021. It seems that the O’s would rather let him concentrate.

As the 2020 season approached, Holmes joined Baltimore as the bullpen coach. A year later, he was promoted to assistant pitching coach. The 57-year-old was the Colorado Rockies’ bullpen coach for five years prior to his 13-year major league playing career.

To cover the openings on the pitching staff, the O’s plan is to hire two more coaches. If not, it appears that they will field the same team as in 2023. Co-hitting coaches Ryan Fuller and Matt Borgschulte are joined by bench coach Fredi Gonzalez.
