Campbell feels “pretty good” about receivers despite the departure of Marvin Jones.
Detroit Lions coach Dan Campbell remains confident in the WR position group following the veteran’s departure.
For many Detroit Lions fans, seeing Marvin Jones Jr. leave so quickly after returning to the team is difficult.
The veteran wide receiver announced Tuesday that he is stepping away from football to deal with family issues.
“Even though it was not an easy decision, I cannot be the person or player I need to be for this team and take care of my family from afar.. This organization has been amazing in showing love and support to me and my family over the years and this time is no exception,” he wrote in an Instagram post.
Jones did not travel with the team to Baltimore last week. When asked about his absence, Dan Campbell replied that it was a personal matter. He has since been released.
Campbell stated on Thursday, “We certainly appreciate Marvin and what he brought to the table.”
Jones played for Detroit for five years, then two years in Jacksonville, before returning to the Lions on a one-year deal. He caught five passes for 35 yards in five games.
“He’s a professional; he takes care of his business.. He is always welcome here, and we appreciate his honesty,” Campbell said. “I wish him luck and appreciation.”
Now, looking at the receivers they still have, Campbell says they’re in good shape..
“We’re doing pretty well in the ballroom.. We had five that went up last week,” he said.. That means Amon-Ra St.. Brown, Josh Reynolds, Jameson Williams, Kalif Raymond and rookie Antoine Green..
“We have some young guys on the vet team who have been training and working, so we feel pretty good,” Campbell said..
The Lions brought in Tom Kennedy, who spent a fair amount of time on Detroit’s practice squad, but played in 20 games during that span.. Perhaps an alternative?? Jeremy has more on this here..
