10:47 — TENNESSEE TOUCHDOWN: Tennessee won the coin toss, elected to defer, forced a three-and-out, took the ball at its own 30-yard line and wasted little time getting to the end zone. A tough third-and-2 run from senior quarterback Joe Milton III moved the chains, and moments later Milton gave the ball to junior running back Jaylen Wright. The dynamic right did the rest, using some nice blocks to get into the second level, breaking a tackle and running away from the secondary. Senior Charles Campbell tacked on the PAT after the five-play, 70-yard, 1:48 touchdown drive. TENNESSEE 7, KENTUCKY 0
5:34 — TENNESSEE FIELD GOAL: Kentucky gambled by keeping the offense on the field for a fourth-and-1 from its own 34-yard line, and Tennessee stonewalled star running back Ray Davis to force a turnover on downs. Tennessee appeared to move the chains and get into the red zone on a nice third-and-4 scramble from Milton, but a holding call backed it up to a third-and-14. The Vols settled for a 44-yard Campbell field goal to extend their lead to two scores. TENNESSEE 10, KENTUCKY 0
SECOND QUARTER
14:51 — KENTUCKY FIELD GOAL: The Cats got off the mat late in the first quarter and took the ball into the red zone, but Tennessee stiffened up from that point and forced a 28-yard field goal attempt, which Alex Raynor converted to cap a 10-play, 65-yard, 5:43 drive. TENNESSEE 10, KENTUCKY 3
11:13 — TENNESSEE FIELD GOAL: Tennessee responded in kind to Kentucky’s field goal, but it felt like another missed opportunity. The Cats couldn’t stop Tennessee’s running game, but a couple more offensive line penalties backed up the Vols and forced a 49-yard field goal attempt from Campbell. The senior drilled it, capping a 10-play, 44-yard, 3:38 drive. TENNESSEE 13, KENTUCKY 3
7:38 — KENTUCKY TOUCHDOWN: Tennessee’s pass rush and secondary struggled alternately or simultaneously on the ensuing possession, and Kentucky went 75 yards in seven plays for its first touchdown of the night. Leary completed a way-too-easy pass to Dane Key to convert a third-and-9 and get the ball in the red zone, and moments later the Cats were in the end zone on a nice, 11-yard throw and catch from Leary to Nashville native Barion Brown. Raynor converted the PAT. TENNESSEE 13, KENTUCKY 10
6:16 — TENNESSEE TOUCHDOWN: Tennessee didn’t seem rattled. The Vols quickly gashed the Cats on a few running plays, and then Milton tossed a 39-yard touchdown pass to redshirt freshman receiver Chas Nimrod. Kentucky cornerback Jordan Robinson got dusted in man coverage and then fell down, allowing Nimrod to catch the pass in a comical amount of space. Campbell converted the PAT after a lighting-strike, five-play, 75-yard, 1:22 drive. TENNESSEE 20, KENTUCKY 10
1:46 — KENTUCKY TOUCHDOWN: For a team that doesn’t love track meets, Kentucky sure started to look comfortable in one. Bad defense from the visitors helped. The Cats converted another third-and-long to get into the red zone, and Davis raced 7 yards to the end zone for a touchdown, thanks partially to a badly missed holding call that caused an eruption from the Tennessee sideline. Raynor converted the PAT after this 10-play, 75-yard, 4:30 drive. TENNESSEE 20, KENTUCKY 17
0:05 — TENNESSEE FIELD GOAL: The Vols put together an answer to extend their lead just before the break, but not without some controversy. A sideline catch was given to senior receiver Ramel Keyton for a 17-yard gain near midfield, but the play way buzzed for a replay … seemingly after Tennessee had already run another play. From that point, it looked like the call might be overturned, but it wasn’t. Milton then pushed the Vols down into the red zone, and Campbell capped the seven-play, 59-yard, 1:41 drive with a 34-yard field goal. TENNESSEE 23, KENTUCKY 17
