Francis Okoronkwo is on the verge of signing a long-term contract with Everton.
According to The Athletic, Everton are close to finalizing a new long-term contract with “highly-rated youngster” Francis Okoronkwo.
On October 28, the news outlet stated that the Blues had moved forward with getting the 19-year-old striker to sign new terms because his current deal was set to expire at the end of the season.
Everton are said to be considering loaning Okoronkwo to an EFL team in order to continue assisting the youngster’s development at Goodison Park.
Okoronkwo is a player with a bright future in the game, therefore it’s encouraging to see Everton attempt to sign him to a long-term contract.
Okoronkwo has yet to make a competitive senior appearance for Everton, however he was part of the first-team squad that went on tour to Evian in the summer and has also been with them on matchday.
It’s all good experience for the adolescent phenom, but he’ll want to receive some senior minutes soon.
Finally, he hasn’t done well in Premier League 2 with only six goals in 34 total appearances, with two of those goals coming in seven games this season.
The former Sunderland attacker, who can play across the entire front line, needs to go on loan, and a January move to a League One or even a Championship club would be extremely beneficial to him.
There will undoubtedly be clubs fighting for a loan acquisition of a young striker in the winter, so Kevin Thelwell needs to start putting out feelers as soon as possible to ensure he finds the appropriate club for Okoronkwo.
In other Everton news, a “very alarming” update on the takeover has emerged.
