good news for Boston Red Sox

Sox Praised For Craig Breslow Hiring

Another day, yet another former colleague of Craig Breslow’s bestows enormous accolades on the recently appointed Chief Baseball Officer of the Red Sox. It is Will Venable this time. Having worked with Breslow for the previous several years with the Chicago Cubs, the former Sox bench coach and fellow Ivy Leaguer (he attended Princeton) believes he’ll be a “good voice for that club in getting them on track.” (Boston Globe, Peter Abraham)

When Breslow assumes leadership of a team, Chris Young of the Texas Rangers will also be a former Ivy League pitcher in that role. It would be good if Breslow’s time in the big chair began similarly, given the Rangers’ current position in the freaking World Series. Jen

In reference to the Diamondbacks, Tommy Pham, a former Sox outfielder, was outstanding at the plate during Game Two. He deliberately gave up the opportunity to become the first player in history to go 5-5 in a World Series game, but even in the midst of his near-historic performance, he is still being questioned about the Sox. Regarding the future of the team, he is upbeat. (NESN, Gio Rivera)

For the Sox over the past few years, John Schreiber has been a highly reliable option out of the bullpen. However, he is working at the renowned Driveline facility in Washington state to expand his skill set by learning a new cutter. (NESN, Tim Crowley)
