Chris Holt will not return to the Baltimore Orioles MLB team as pitching coach, Roch Kubatko of MASNsports.com reports.
He will remain with the organization as director of pitching, a position he held alongside the title of pitching coach for several seasons.
Assistant Pitching Coach Darren Sherlock will leave the organization completely, Kubatko added.
The rest of Brandon Hyde’s squad is expected to return for the coach’s sixth season.
Holt, 44, has worked in Baltimore since 2019.
He previously worked with the Astros, following former Houston executive Mike Elias to Baltimore when the latter was hired as general manager.
Holt has been named to the MLB roster through 2021.
The O’s clearly want to allow him to focus more consistently on an in-air role, which would allow him to work with the MLB and the minor leagues.
Holmes joined Baltimore for the 2020 season as bullpen coach.
He was named assistant pitching coach a year later.
The 57-year-old spent 13 years in the big leagues and, before that, spent half a decade as bullpen coach of the Colorado Rockies.
The O’s may be adding two new coaches to fill the void on the pitching side.
Otherwise, they look set to race against the same group as in 2023.
Fredi Gonzalez is the bench coach, while Matt Borgschulte and Ryan Fuller are the co-linemen coaches.
