Another shocking news: Broncos confirm the departures of six key players

Broncos confirm departures, six players’ futures remain undecided

The Broncos have six players yet to determine their futures.

The Brisbane Broncos have left six players’ futures uncertain, revealing that their only end-of-season departures at this point are Herbie Farnworth, Thomas Flegler, and Keenan Palasia.

The trio joins Ethan Quai-Ward, who left the Brisbane Lions in the middle of the season for the Canterbury Bulldogs, as the club’s losses at the end of 2023.

At this point, the team has only signed Fletcher Baker and will have roster spaces available in 2024, with six players coming off-contract and yet to decide their futures.

The most renowned of these is Corey Oates. He had a player option for 2024, but he declined it and has been in talks with the club ever since.

He has openly stated his intention to continue at Red Hill on multiple occasions, indicating that it is where he wants to play rugby league, even though no deal has been confirmed at this time.

Josh Rogers, who was on a development deal in 2023 and made his NRL debut at five-eighth in Round 27 as Kevin Walters rested most of Brisbane’s best 17, has also apparently been elevated to a Top 30 deal, but that report was published in early September with no confirmation from the club as of yet.

Logan Bayloiss-Brow and Brendan Frei were both rumored to have been released by the Broncos, but they were not included in Brisbane’s departures announcement on Thursday morning.

Jordan Pereira and Tyson Smoothy are also on the list.

Pereira made just one appearance in 2023 and his future has yet to be determined. Overall, he has 14 tries in 45 NRL games for the Broncos (since the start of 2022) and St George Illawarra Dragons (from 2018 to 2021).

Smoothy, on the other hand, is likely to have his contract renewed, despite the fact that squad balance is a hot topic at Red Hill.

Brisbane has already signed Billy Walters, Cory Paix, and Blake Mozer. Mozer is regarded as a future great dummy half, while Walters has recently performed admirably for Brisbane.

However, it has since been claimed that Paix, who was passed up for a bench spot in the second half of 2023, may quit the club in 2024, allowing the Broncos to justify re-signing Smoothy.
