Dr. Marc Philippon to perform hip surgery on San Francisco Giants player

Marc Philippon, MD, will perform hip surgery on Alex Cobb, a pitcher for the San Francisco Giants, in Vail, Colo., on Oct. 31.

The surgery is to fix Mr. Cobb’s labrum and ongoing impingement issues on his left hip, according to an Oct. 31 report from mlb.com.

The recovery time is expected to be six months, forcing Mr. Cobb to miss the beginning of the 2024 MLB season.

Mr. Cobb received multiple treatment therapies but opted for surgery after getting a second opinion from Dr. Philippon.

Dr. Philippon is an orthopedic hip surgeon and a managing partner at the Steadman Clinic in Vail, Colo. He has provided successful treatment to more than 1,000 professional and Olympic athletes throughout his career. Buster Posey undergoes surgery on right hip

Orlando Cepeda, one of the most popular players in Giants history, remained in a Bay Area hospital Wednesday in “critical condition” after suffering “cardiac arrest,” according to a release from the San Francisco Giants.

Cepeda, 80, was rushed to the hospital Monday night. He fell in the parking lot of his gym and “suffered a severe blow to the skull,” according to family friend Paco Figueroa.

Figueroa, who is a minor league coach for the Los Angeles Dodgers, also told Puerto Rican newspaper El Nuevo Dia that Cepeda is “in a delicate state.”

The news spread throughout the Giants training camp in Scottsdale, Arizona. Giants players declined to comment publicly, leaving that to manager Bruce Bochy.

“A Hall of Famer, a legend here,” Bochy said. “He comes here for our Hall of Fame get-together in the clubhouse. He has fun with the players. Our prayers are with him.”

According to dispatch records, the Fairfield Fire Department picked up Cepeda at 6:04 p.m. at the Rancho Solano Golf Club. The dispatcher reported a male who was unconscious and added that CPR was in progress.
