Former Cleveland Indians star Joe Charboneau arrested, charged with domestic violence in Berea

BEREA, Ohio — Former Cleveland Indians star Joe Charboneau, 67, was arrested Aug. 12 after he was seen shoving his wife, causing her to fall to the ground, outside Tony K’s Bar & Grille in Berea.

Charboneau was later charged with domestic violence, violating a protection order and resisting arrest, all misdemeanors. He pleaded not guilty Monday (Aug. 15) in Berea Municipal Court after spending the weekend in the North Royalton jail.

Charboneau, of Olmsted Falls, was released on $1,000 bond after his arraignment Monday. A pre-trial hearing is scheduled for Sept. 15 in Berea court.

As first reported by Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, Cleveland Indians’ OF Shin-Soo Choo was arrested for DUI on Monday morning. Choo was stopped on Lake Road (Route 6) at 2:25 a.m. when a police officer saw his car weaving on the road.

Choo becomes the sixth player to be arrested on suspicion of DUI this year. The other winners are Miguel CabreraAustin KearnsAdam KennedyCoco Crisp, and Derek Lowe.

Ironically enough, it was announced on Monday that Choo was voted by his peers in a SI.com poll as the most underrated player in the game. I guess he was celebrating with a severe hangover.
