Former Notre Dame Football Player Kona Schwenke Dies At Age 25

NOTRE DAME, Indiana – Kona Schwenke, a four-year Monogram winner and defensive lineman for the University of Notre Dame football team, died Sunday (April 22) at his home in Laie, Hawai’i. The program’s Next Man In Award winner in 2013, Schwenke played in 31 games and started nine contests for the Fighting Irish over his career (2010-13). He registered 30 career tackles. As a senior in 2013, Schwenke recorded 23 total tackles, including six solo stops. He made a career-best 11 tackles in the victory over Navy on Nov. 2, 2013.

Schwenke graduated in May 2014 with a degree in anthropology from the College of Arts and Letters.
