SAD NEWS: Texas Rangers key player will miss the rest of the season due to serious injury

Texas Rangers Officially Remove Max Scherzer, Adolis García From World Series Roster

Max Scherzer and Adolis García will miss the remainder of the World Series due to injury, and the Texas Rangers have replaced them with Brock Burke and Ezequiel Durán.

The Texas Rangers have removed starting pitcher Max Scherzer and outfielder Adolis García from their World Series roster, the club announced Tuesday night.

Both All-Stars exited Game 3 early due to injuries on Monday. Scherzer left after 3.0 innings with lower back tightness, while García strained his left oblique after flying out to center in the eighth.

Texas managed to squeak by the Arizona Diamondbacks 3-1 to go up 2-1 in the series, but the win came at a cost.

Bochy submitted his Game 4 lineup card without García on it earlier Tuesday, and he did not seem hopeful when speaking to reporters pregame. After further evaluation, both Scherzer and García were ultimately ruled out for the rest of the postseason.

Left-handed pitcher Brock Burke will take Scherzer’s place on the pitching staff, while utility man Ezequiel Durán. The move was approved by MLB Medical Director Dr. Gary Green.

“It’s a strong group of guys,” Rangers GM Chris Young said while confirming the moves to the media. “They’ve got high character. They have responded to adversity all season. And, again, nobody’s feeling sorry for us. We’re going to go out and give it our best.’’

Travis Jankowski will replace García in the starting lineup for at least Game 4.

Scherzer was held out of the AL Wild Card Series and ALDS due to shoulder injury he suffered in mid-September. He made his return in the ALCS, starting Games 3 and 7 against the Houston Astros, but he allowed seven earned runs in 6.2 innings across those two outings.

In Game 3 of the World Series, Scherzer tossed 3.0 scoreless innings before his back tightened up.

Without Scherzer, it remains to be seen how Bochy will manage his rotation moving forward. Nathan Eovaldi and Jordan Montgomery are expected to start Games 5 and 6, if necessary, but Texas is now down their potential Game 7 starter.
