Monday Morning Quarterback: If you don’t beat them now, when will you?
Sam Webb And Devin Gardner discuss Ryan Day and the Wolverine’s offensive output against Ohio State.
Every Monday from 9 am – 10 am EST, The Michigan Insider’s Sam Webb and former Michigan quarterback Devin Gardner come together on Sports Talk 1050 WTKA for The Monday Morning Quarterback. Each show offers a deep dive into Michigan’s game the week prior from the perspective of a man who wore the winged helmet as the Wolverines’ starting signal caller.
In this week’s breakdown, Devin gives us his appraisal.
I’m happy you have your voice, Sam. But let me just talk about these young men in the winged helmets. With all the adversity… I mean, this is one of the most impressive feats I’ve ever seen because of everything that goes with it. You got guys telling you how much you cheated, your coach isn’t there, you can’t do it. And so at some point, if people say it enough on ESPN and all these different networks, it’s gonna get inside you. Usually, for normal people, it gets inside of you. But for some reason, it didn’t. It didn’t at all. Your quarterback’s injured. If you don’t beat them now, when will you ever beat him? We talked about it, you have to beat Michigan, now, with all the excuses and everything. Now they have nothing to say.
I’m really wondering, I want to look in this chat and see where all these Buckeyes are and what they have to say, because they’re always on the show. ‘Can’t wait to the new year. You haven’t played anybody. Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. And now look at you look at you, you’re all mad at either your quarterback or your coach and everybody wants everybody fired. Well, at Michigan, they’re gonna get their coach back. Yep, coming up soon. And everything’s in order. quarterback’s gonna get healthy, outstanding game, and I love the way they finished it. So as you guys know, I had a game – Houston vs. UCF great game. But our game went pretty fast. Right? So, by the time we finished, it was still like middle of the fourth. So first, I had the game on. Let’s be clear, the game was on but no sound. You know, I can only peek up every once in a while, and commercials and things like that. And then, oh about seven, eight minutes left in the fourth, I got a chance to watch. Sat in the dressing room. And I’m just like, they’re about to run this ball down their throats and they will not get a chance. They won’t. They won’t. They’re gonna run it. They’re gonna they do that. Obviously, Blake is outstanding, got his first opportunity in the game as a healthy football player. And it was just a beauty to watch all the hard work that they put in. And that last drive before, obviously Ohio State got their chance that they squandered. That was so impressive to watch them just line up and run the ball. Line up and run the ball and take all the time off the clock, kick a field goal … a nice field goal I might add – and then the defense stands tall. Unbelievable. I was super impressed with everybody on the field did.
