Everton is interested in a “brilliant” out-of-favour Aston Villa player.

On the pitch, Everton have had a solid season under Sean Dyche, finishing in the middle of the table and out of the relegation zone. However, the consequences of their actions off the field have dragged them back into the bottom three and five points adrift of Premier League safety following their point deduction for violating financial fair play rules.

Dyche and everyone involved at Goodison Park may be extremely frustrated with the situation. Nonetheless, the Toffees have been forced to save themselves once more, and after transfers landed them in this predicament, Everton may look to the winter window and one specific target to get them out of it.

Everton transfer rumors

Everton’s reinforcements began to pay dividends after welcoming Ashley Young, Arnuat Danjuma, and Jack Harrison during the summer transfer window. And if it weren’t for their point deduction, the Toffees would be on 14 points, five points clear of the dropzone and comfortably in 15th place. With a busy festive period of fixtures ahead, Everton must rally and ensure that the deduction does not lead to a change in form on the field. To that end, the Toffees may turn to the January transfer window to bring in one specific player.

Everton are keeping an eye on Leander Dendoncker ahead of a potential January move, according to Football Insider’s Wayne Veysey. Under Unai Emery, the former Wolverhampton Wanderers man has fallen out of favour, and the Villans are now reportedly willing to listen to offers for their midfielder. Dendoncker was on the verge of leaving the Midlands in the summer, only for a proposed move to Fenerbahce to fall through on deadline day.

When the winter transfer window opens, Everton may look to Dendoncker for a defensive midfielder.

“Brilliant” Dendoncker must relocate.

Aston Villa: Dendoncker at a career crossroads at Villa Park, exit now clear

Dendoncker’s statistics for Aston Villa so far this season do not paint a rosy picture. The Belgian has yet to appear in a Premier League match and has only played seven minutes in England’s top flight. His only two starts have come in the Europa Conference League and Carabao Cup, with Villa defeating Zrinjski Mosar 1-0 and, ironically, losing to Everton 2-1 in the League Cup.

Dendoncker, on the other hand, could get the minutes he requires at Everton. Dyche currently has James Garner partnering Idrissa Gueye, with Abdoulaye Doucoure pushed further forward. Dendoncker, the former Burnley manager, may have found an ideal, and undoubtedly more experienced, partner for Gueye than Garner; a partner who could mean the difference between survival and relegation.

Despite his current position at Villa, Dendoncker’s former teammate, Max Kilman, told The Express & Star via Molinuex News: “Leander’s performances are always underappreciated. He always does a good job and gives you a good performance. I’m glad he got his goal, and I’m glad people noticed how well he played. He’s brilliant, and nothing bothers him. He understands his task and is not bothered by the pressure.”
