Kelly caught two passes during his sophomore season

Auburn receiver Omari Kelly became the third player this week to declare his intentions to enter the transfer portal, the sophomore announced on social media Friday morning.

A former 4-star recruit from Trussville, Alabama, Kelly appeared in nine games this season. He was unable to consistently crack a deep receiver rotation, and he finished the year with just two receptions for 45 yards.

At the moment, Auburn returns five of its top six wide receivers from an unproductive 2023 group: Ja’Varrius JohnsonJay FairCaleb Burton IIIMalcolm Johnson Jr. and Camden Brown.

After flipping Phenix City (Ala.) Central five-star receiver Cameron Coleman from Texas A&M on Friday, Hugh Freeze and this first-year Auburn staff see their 2024 recruiting class rise five spots to No. 12 in the land. Coleman is commit No. 19 and the jewel of a haul that has seen Freeze and company swing the spatula heavy thus far.

In fact the four top players in the class are flips. Coleman joins five-star wide out Perry Thompson who turned from Alabama on July 29. Thompson is the No. 23 prospect in the land. Auburn flipped 247Sports No. 48 overall edge rusher Jamonta Waller from Florida on Nov. 11. In July they got touted linebacker Demarcus Riddick, the No. 52 prospect in America, to back off his verbal to Georgia.

Auburn’s new-look starting backcourt is settling in nicely on the Plains.

The Tigers are 5-1 ahead of their first true road game of the season Sunday at App State, and guards Aden Holloway and Denver Jones are two of the team’s four leading scorers. A 5-star freshman and the No. 2-rated signee in program history, Holloway leads Auburn at 3.5 assists per game and is second in scoring, while Jones is shooting an excellent 42.1 percent from 3-point range so far.
