Good News: Texas Longhorns have just completed the signing of a free agent

Texas Longhorns Officially Sign 2024 Commits Nic Codie, Cam Scott to Letters of Intent

The Texas Longhorns secured their first two signatures of the 2024 recruiting class on Wednesday.

The Texas Longhorns have officially signed 2024 commits Nic Codie and Cam Scott after the early signing period began on Wednesday. The Longhorns announced Scott and Codie as members of the program for the first time via social media.

The signing of Codie comes just six days after he announced his commitment to Texas.

Codie, a four-star forward from Newman Smith (Carrollton, Texas), made an unofficial visit to the Forty Acres in June before making his official visit to Austin on Sept. 15. The Longhorns clearly made an impression on him.

“Every since I stepped into Texas and ever since they started recruiting me it felt like home,” Codie said on On3’s livestream. “The whole team, whole coaching staff showed me love. I feel like it’s deeper than basketball with Texas. We just have a real good relationship, and I just love the program. They have a history of winning … I just feel like I can bring a national championship to Texas.”

Scott, a four-star, 6-5, 165-pound guard from Lexington (Lexington, S.C.), made an official visit to Austin this past November. It’s possible that this visit sealed the deal in his mind, as he admitted it’s always felt like home.

“I’m ready to be in Austin,” Scott said, per On3. “Always felt like home and it’s time to work back to a Final Four run.”

Coach Rodney Terry and staff know all too well what it’s like to lose two signees after the departure of A.J. Johnson and Ron Holland this past offseason, but securing the signatures of Scott and Codie remains big for the program this far out from the start of next season.
