I will never play for rangers again……..

Rangers return for Alfredo Morelos draws ‘is done’ verdict amid transfer links to Lawrence Shankland and Kevin van Veen

Alfredo Morelos “is done” and Rangers can’t bring him back due to a “lack of professionalism” according to the panel on PLZ Soccer.

On The Football Show on 8 December, the former Ibrox star came up as a potential free-transfer alternative to Hearts captain Lawrence Shankland and former Motherwell forward Kevin van Veen, with both already linked to a Light Blues move in January as Philippe Clement looks for striker help.

But all three of Lee McCulloch, Tam McManus, and Peter Martin shut down the possibility of a return for “El Bufalo” as the wrong move for Rangers.

After Alan Rough suggested Morelos as a free option McCulloch said “no”, reasoning (26m): “I just think the board, listening to them and the class they’ve got, they would look to move forward.”

McManus added: “I think Morelos is done.”

“I agree with you,” said Martin. “Lack of professionalism, can’t bring him back.”

In the past

Unfortunately for Rangers it is currently difficult to confidently claim that they have improved up front since Morelos left the club at the end of his contract in the summer.

Despite regularly being linked to big-money transfers in successive windows at Ibrox the 27-year-old only belatedly joined Santos in Brazil in early September.

But with the club now condemned to a shock relegation from the top flight for the first time in their history he should be available for free due to a clause in his contract [Scottish Sun, 17 September].

However, despite a record of 124 goals and 58 assists as a Rangers player it is hard to see a reunion being beneficial to either side at this stage, with Morelos having played very little football for a struggling side in the past three months.

Regularly faulted for his behaviour and his weight while in Glasgow perhaps this season’s struggles with Sam Lammers, Cyriel Dessers, and to a lesser extent Danilo in attack, have put the former Gers star’s impact into context.

Either way, as with Ryan Kent, it would surely be moving in the wrong direction to bring back players from the old guard when the club were supposed to be evolving away from that this year.

In other Rangers news, a minimal spend is on the cards in January after “a lot of criticism” from John Bennett according to Tom English.
