He is going for good: Penn State Nittany Lions CB want to leave

Penn State recruiting takeaways: Nittany Lions avoid drama after coordinator changes

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. — One after the next, Penn State’s 25 signees spoke with James Franklin and his staff. The head coach congratulated the recruits before reminding them that the next step won’t be easy.

Their bodies will have to change and the rigors of a college strength and conditioning program will help them do so. Parents joked about no longer having to worry about their son running up their grocery bill, while Franklin assured them he and his staff will take care of them.

By the time the 25th member of the 2024 class was announced Wednesday morning and the school’s signing day celebration and live stream ended, the head coach was relieved. Penn State leaves for the Peach Bowl on Saturday, and while it will continue monitoring the transfer portal, shifting back to a game week will be a welcomed routine for many.

“There’s a lot to be said for a drama-free signing day,” Franklin said. “And I think we take that for granted. I think it’s very telling about the staff and how thorough and how detailed we are.”

Who are the early enrollees?

Sixteen signees will enroll at Penn State in January. Getting the bulk of the class working with strength coach Chuck Losey and his staff and practicing during spring ball is a significant advantage.

The early enrollees are QB Ethan Grunkemeyer, TE Luke Reynolds, RB Quinton Martin, OL Cooper Cousins, OL Eagan Boyer, OL Garrett Sexton, WR Josiah Brown, DL Liam Andrews, DL Xavier Gilliam, DL De’Andre Cook, DL T.A. Cunningham, DL Jaylen Harvey, LB Kari Jackson, CB Jon Mitchell, CB AJ Belgrave-Shorter and S Vaboue Toure.
