Cut-down Day: Here’s who the Cincinnati Bengals have cut to get their roster down to 53 players
On Tuesday, the Bengals officially announced a series of roster moves to trim their roster to 53 players, including waiving 26 players from the roster.
Below are several notable players that were either waived or or had their contracts terminated on Tuesday.
Siemian was signed by the Bengals in May following the departure of Brandon Allen, who signed as a free agent with the San Francisco 49ers.
A product of Northwestern, Siemian completed 58.1% of his passes for 347 yards and two interceptions in three games this preseason.
In his NFL career, Siemian has logged a 58.9% completion percentage and has thrown for 7,027 yards, 42 touchdowns and 28 interceptions.
Allan George
George, a cornerback, signed with Cincinnati as a collegiate free agent, appearing in four games a season ago, making two tackles.
Michael Thomas
Thomas,. a veteran safety, has appeared in 24 games over the last two years for the Bengals. Morrison says he wouldn’t be surprised for Thomas to be signed to Cincinnati’s practice squad.
Hakeem Adeniji
Adeneji, drafted in the sixth round of the 2020 draft by Cincinnati, appeared in 39 games (15 starts) for the Bengals in three years.
Drue Chrisman
Chrisman, an alum of La Salle, outright won the punting battle midway through the season last year, averaging 47.8 yards per punt in his seven games, spelling long-time Bengals punter Kevin Huber.
Robbins was drafted with the 217th overall selection in the NFL Draft this past April.
Trent Taylor
Taylor spent two years with the Bengals, joining the club in 2021, and played appeared in 20 total games. He fielded 33 punt returns for 340 yards last year. As a pass catcher, the former Louisiana Tech Bulldog caught eight total passes – six last year – for 103 yards.
Siemian, Taylor and Thomas were among six veterans whose contracts were terminated on Tuesday, joining tight end Tanner Hudson, cornerback Sidney Jones IV and wide receiver Stanley Morgan.
These players are released to free agency and thus free to sign with another team or to re-sign with the Bengals.
In addition to Adeniji, Chrisman and George, 23 other players were waived by the Bengals on Tuesday. All NFL players are eligible to be signed to a team’s practice squad in 2023, though players who are waived must clear waivers first.
