Texas WR signee Aaron Butler has verified elite speed
The California product has reached 21.2 miles per hour on the football field and boasts an in-game athleticism score among the top 10 high school wide receivers in the country.
Put on the film or check the 200m time of 21.93 and the speed is obvious for Texas Longhorns signee Aaron Butler, a wide receiver from Calabasas (Calif.) who inked with the Longhorns at the end of the early signing period without visiting Austin.
But exactly how fast is the 6’0, 170-pounder in pads when the lights are on?
That’s the question that Reel Analytics, a sports tech and data company, was founded to analyze. And, it turns out Butler is as fast as he looks, reaching 21.2 miles per hour and posting an in-game athleticism score in the 98th percentile.
To put that speed into perspective, it gives Butler an IGA of 87.4 that ranks ninth among 2024 wide receiver signees tracked by RA. At No. 2? Consensus five-star prospect Ryan Wingo, the Texas signee ranked No. 24 nationally in the 247Sports Composite rankings.
Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian knows something about speed, and not just because his motto is “All Gas, No Brakes” — junior wide receiver Xavier Worthy reached a max speed of 22.7 miles per hour this season, the best in college football.
Butler didn’t come close to touching that mark, but it’s worth noting that Worthy exceeded 21 miles per hour only three times in 2023, so Butler is still in some elite company with the type of speed that makes him a clear fit in Sarkisian’s offense and an exciting addition to the 2024 recruiting class.
A consensus four-star prospect, Butler is ranked as the No. 122 player nationally and the No. 21 wide receiver. Texas won out for his services over finalists Arizona and Washington.
