After a disastrous defeat at home to the New York Giants in Week 11, the Washington Commanders are just two defeats away from their fourth consecutive losing season under Ron Rivera. Something that will inevitably lead to landmark changes across the board with Josh Harris’ ownership group looking to stamp their mark on the franchise.
We’ve already seen this begin in recent weeks. Harris hired Eugene Shen to lead his new analytics-based approach, which was swiftly followed by the tough decision to trade the defensive end tandem of Montez Sweat and Chase Young before the deadline.
This is just the start, one suspects. Haris and his team of wealthy investors are likely to be discussing their plans for the future, which means almost everyone in the building should be nervously looking over their shoulders.
With this in mind, we picked out seven Commanders players and coaches who are unlikely to be around in 2024.
Joey Slye – Commanders K
Joey Slye is a much-maligned figure among the Washington Commanders fanbase. Kickers are normally easy scapegoats, but the frustrations regarding stupid mental errors – especially in recent weeks – cannot be ignored when the time comes to decide his future.
Slye’s converted 80 percent of his field goal attempts to date – the second-lowest percentage of his career. Couple this with two extra points missed, it’s not hard to see why the Commanders might decide to examine alternative options rather than hand the former Virginia Tech star another extension in 2024.
