The Atlanta Braves have announced that president of baseball operations Alex Anthopoulos has signed a contract extension that will keep him with the organization through the 2031 season. Financial terms were not immediately disclosed.

“Alex and I have enjoyed a wonderful working relationship, and I look forward to that continuing for many years to come,” said Terry McGuirk, Chairman & CEO of Braves Holdings, LLC. “I have been around this game a very long time and know that Alex’s track record of success is truly something special. There is simply no one better in the business. This extension gives Alex the runway to make long-term decisions and the opportunity to continue his track record of assembling teams that are perennial contenders. I have the utmost confidence in his ability to deliver championship baseball for our fans well into the future.”

Anthopoulos, 46, has been with the organization since 2017, when he joined as General Manager and Executive Vice President. He was promoted to President of Baseball Operations in February of 2020 and signed a contract extension that was set to expire after the 2024 season.

Under Anthopoulos’s tenure, the Braves have had a .593 record (515-534) with six NL East division championships (all won consecutively) and, of course, the 2021 World Series. He’s been an creative and innovative front office architect, expertly using the trade market and long-term extensions to build a position player core that is the envy of baseball.
