On January 16, Boston Celtics guard Payton Pritchard advertised “Jackpocket,” an app that offers electronic lottery tickets. Pritchard promoted the company with the following caption.
“A free chance at Mega Millions…” Use the code ‘PAYTON’ at checkout on the @Jackpocket lottery app to get your first lotto ticket free. Link in my bio. Goodluck!” Pritchard wrote.
Multiple Celtics then used the chance to troll Pritcha
rd in the comments section. Kristaps Porzingis mocked Pritchard’s promotion as a “big scam” with a laugh emoji. Oshae Brissett described Pritchard as a “real scammer.” These remarks were in response to famed rapper Drake remarking on the Toronto Raptors broadcast that Pritchard was “out there looking like a crypto scammer” when they faced the Celtics on November 27.
Pritchard did not push bitcoin, but he did promote a software designed for individuals looking to make money. Though they are not the same, cryptocurrencies and the lottery are somewhat similar, which makes the jokes even funnier.
The Celtics ridiculing Pritchard demonstrates the amount of togetherness on their roster.
Payton Pritchard Responds to Drake
Reporters questioned Payton Pritchard about Drake referring to him as a “crypto scammer.” Pritchard responded honestly, albeit he sounded bewildered.
“What does a crypto scammer look like?” Pritchard asked reporters, according to Adam Himmelsbach of The Boston Globe. “I don’t know. I’d say it looks like an average-looking white person, thus I’d describe myself as a normal-looking white dude of ordinary height, as if I look like everyone. So, considering the NBA environment, I’m not sure if that’s what he meant.”
In the end, Pritchard was a good sport about it since he knew Drake was just trying to be humorous.
“He’s just trying to make a joke,” Pritchard explained. “It is just funny. I’m not going to take this personally. It’s not that serious.
That same day, Pritchard shared a gallery on Instagram with the description “Crypto scammer.”
Evidently, Pritchard has not been able to escape the moniker since then, and may not be able to for some time.
Payton Pritchard Opens Up About ‘
“I never think of it as garbage time. This is an opportunity for me to hoop. You know, I’m not in for the first or third quarters, so that’s my time. I don’t see it that way. At the end of the day, everyone is an NBA guy. “This is top-level basketball here,” Pritchard told reporters, according to Noa Dalzell’s X account.
Over the last two seasons, the Celtics have benched Pritchard in favor of Dennis Schröder and Malcolm Brogdon. During that time, Pritchard would only play when the Celtics were shorthanded or the game was nearly settled. As a result, Pritchard plainly recognizes that any opportunity to play is a good one

On January 13, the Celtics defeated the Houston Rockets 145–113. Because the game was almost finished before the fourth quarter began, Payton Pritchard played until the final buzzer sounded. During that period, he produced a couple highlights, including an off-the-backboard alley-oop to Oshae Brissett.
