Future UNC Basketball Forward Records First Triple-Double

Drake Powell, a top 2024 UNC basketball recruit, seems to be as adept at passing the ball as he is at scoring and grabbing rebounds.

Northwood (N.C.) star Drake Powell finished 5-for-8 from the field to score 10 points, 10 rebounds, and 11 assists in Friday night’s 73-24 rout of North Moore High School (N.C.). The 2024 UNC basketball signee accomplished this impressively without making a single turnover.

Powell recorded his first triple-double as a prep, per a social media tweet from the team’s account. Powell’s performance was efficient.

Reaching No. 9 overall on the 247Sports 2024 Composite, the 6-foot-6, 195-pound chiseled forward was added to the 25-deep midseason watchlist for the Naismith Boys’ High School Player of the Year Trophy on Thursday. Along with Link Academy (Mo.) four-star center James Brown, Powell and Jackson inked their national letter of intent with the Tar Heels during the early signing period in November.

Those three comprise the nation’s No. 7 haul in the 2024 cycle, per 247Sports.

Powell, whose school is only a 20-minute drive from the Smith Center, became the first 2024 UNC basketball recruiting prize when he committed to Hubert Davis and his staff back in September 2022.
