Nofoaluma played 192 games with the Tigers, but he will never again wear their uniform as his contract was terminated with two years remaining after a standoff with the team over a number of protocol and discipline issues.

Patty Sills, 24, has been following the Tigers his entire life and pledged to get a permanent reminder of the winger upon his re-signing in 2021. He was true to his word, getting a tattoo on his left forearm of Nofoaluma in full cry after a Wests Tigers victory.

Fans at the time questioned his decision but Sills forged ahead and is glad he did despite his hero’s messy exit. “In terms of the tattoo, there are no regrets,” he told Yahoo Sport Australia. “Obviously it’s disappointing to see Nof go but he will always hold a special place in my heart and there are no plans to get any of it changed or removed.”

Asked why he chose a player over something that would be around forever – like the club emblem – Sills responded: ” really thought about what I wanted to get and David popped into my head. I think everyone loved him at that time. It was the way he went about his footy and the loyalty he has showed.

“When we lost all those guys like (James) Tedesco and (Mitchell) Moses he stuck around and that loyalty was good to see. I said I’d get the tattoo done if Nof re-signed (in 2021) and I’m a man of my word.

“I was very happy with the end product and not long after I got it done I saw him outside Leichhardt Oval before a game and showed him. I think he was stoked…he seemed pretty happy with it.”

And Sills, a Sydney bar worker, revealed he might be adding to his Tigers body art despite his disappointment at seeing his favourite player cut ties with the joint venture. He said: “There’s been a lot more thin than thick following the Tigers but I will never give up on them and there’s still room on the arm for additions. If Benji (Marshall) gets us into the finals, I might have to get the whole squad done.”
