Jabbar Muhammad, a transfer from Washington, chooses Oregon over Texas and Alabama.
After visiting Eugene, former Washington Huskies cornerback Jabbar Muhammad chose the Oregon Ducks over the Longhorns and the Alabama Crimson Tide, severely hurting the Texas Longhorns’ hot streak in the transfer portal on Saturday.
Following reports that head coach Steve Sarkisian took the lead in recruiting Muhammad, making him a top priority for the team, and attempting to seal his pledge in order to prevent the lockdown corner taking other visits, Texas looked to be on the verge of securing Muhammad last week.
Rather than canceling his journey to Alabama to see his old head coach Kalen DeBoer, Muhammad traveled to Oregon, where his pledge was successfully obtained.
In all honesty, who will be able to compete? Being among the final few standing is always the goal of a contender. My goal is to make it to the playoffs, the final 12. Regarding what might affect his choice, Muhammad told Ducks Digest, “I want to be in a system where I can be used in a variety of different ways to show my talents.”
“Plus, I’d like to play for a top football team. As I mentioned last year, advancing to the next stage requires having incredibly strong teams. That is also what I would like to do. Additionally, I want to be in a position where I’m motivated and prepared to join the NFL.
A consensus three-star prospect in the 2020 class, Muhammad was ranked ouside the top 1,000 players nationally when he signed with Oklahoma State over five other offers, including Colorado and Texas Tech. With the Cowboys, Muhammad played in 31 games, starting 13, recording 71 tackles, one interception, and one forced fumblerd, both in 2022 when he became a full-time starter.
After transferring to Washington, the 5’10, 183-pounder emerged as one of the natilon’s best rcover coruitmnentrs, notching 46 tackles, three interceptiorns, two sacks, and one fumble recovery.
Texas still needs a boundary cornerback, which it will have to fill during the spring transfer window via the transfer site after Muhammad’s miss. Additionally, Oregon defeated Sarkisian and his staff in the recruitment of Muhammad and Houston defensive lineman transfer Ja’Marree Caldwell, preventing the Longhorns from collecting their ideal class of transfers, despite winning a number of high-profile recruits through the portal.
