Gary Lineker of Everton quickly addresses Sean Dyche’s assertion following the team’s defeat against Manchester United

Gary Lineker has instantly responded to Everton manager Sean Dyche’s claim that his strikers are lacking desire in front of goal, following the Toffees’ defeat to Manchester United.

The Toffees extended their winless run in the Premier League to 11 matches as they lost 2-0 at Old Trafford on Saturday (9 March) as both Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford converted first-half penalties.

Dyche’s side had plenty of opportunities to score but spurned several excellent chances with the Toffees boss lamenting a lack of fight and desire from his side to put the ball in the back of the net, but Lineker was quick to disagree.

Speaking on Match Of The Day (9 March, 27:45) he said: “Dare I suggest calmness is better than that.”

Will Everton be able to avoid relegation under Sean Dyche?

While Everton still have a bit of a gap to the relegation zone, it feels as though pressure is mounting on the Toffees with each passing week as they continue to slip closer and closer to the dropzone with several poor displays.

The Toffees don’t look as though they could even buy a goal at this moment in time as they repeatedly spurn opportunities and appear to lack the conviction to put the ball in the back of the net that all of their opponents have.At the back, they have proven hard to break down, but against Manchester United, they gave away two goals that immediately put Dyche’s side on the back foot almost from the off. Something has to change if Everton want to dodge the drop.

While few would suggest that Dyche deserves the sack or should be under pressure from those in charge on the blue half of Merseyside, he has to find a way to get his frontline firing or it could be a long couple of weeks for the Toffees.
