“Out-of-control,” says Everton Premier League wreaks havoc as evidenced by the comprehensive lawsuit threat against Leicester

Neil Moxley has blasted the “out-of-control” Premier League for causing “chaos and carnage” with their punishment of Everton as Leicester City face a similar financial fair play breach.

The Foxes could be set to face charges for two alleged breaches of profit and sustainability rules, but may now avoid a point deduction this season with any punishment instead rolling over to the next campaign.

However, talkSPORT (7 March) reported that Leicester’s Championship rivals may take legal action against the Foxes and Daily Mirror journalist Moxley has slammed the Premier League for their handling of the situation.

Writing for the Sunday People (10 March, page 52) he said: “English football is being led into an abyss by the Premier League. Chaos and carnage. It’s got to the point where we can’t even trust a league table.

“So far this season we’ve had Everton docked 10 points – no, that should be six – and charges against Nottingham Forest that will take more than two months to sort.

And now it seems Leicester are facing similar issues because of the financial mess they’ve created for themselves – not to mention legal threats in the Championship if the Foxes’ rivals miss out on promotion.

How much more is lurking beneath the surface? Will Chelsea find themselves called to account? Or Aston Villa, who just posted a £120million loss in their accounts.

The clubs must take responsibility, but so too should the competition’s organisers. They’ve created an out-of-control monster.”

Will Leicester City face same punishment as Everton or avoid a point deduction?

Everton supporters have been vocal in their criticism of the Premier League throughout the season as they feel that they have been unfairly treated over a number of important issues at Goodison Park.

While the Toffees have won some of their points back following their appeal against their original point deduction, they could be set for a second major punishment if they are found guilty of their second alleged PSR breach.

On top of that, supporters have been left in the dark as the league continue to delay handing 777 Partners approval to complete their takeover from Farhad Moshiri, despite having months to reach a final decision.

It seems ridiculous that the Toffees have been treated so harshly while Leicester may get away with a slap on the wrist until next season. Hopefully, common sense will be used at some point and the Premier League will take control of its monster.
