Phil McNulty believes the Everton players could be being impacted by the “cloud of uncertainty” that is hanging over the club.
Answering a question in his Q&A on the BBC Sport website on Monday (11 March) about how the possibility of points deductions is affecting the Toffees and Nottingham Forest players, the journalist pointed out how Sean Dyche’s side went on their best run in years after being handed their initial 10-point penalty.
But he added that neither team have been anywhere good enough lately and believes their struggles are more down to results as they are both hovering just above the relegation zone in the Premier League.
“Everton actually went on their best run for years after being deducted 10 points but since then have struggled, not winning a league game since December, and there is no doubt a cloud of uncertainty that hangs over the clubs, which can have an impact,” said McNulty.
“I think we also have to factor in the simple fact that, at the moment, neither team is anywhere near good enough and their struggles are down to results. Everton and Forest simply have to set all this to one side to try and focus on winning some football matches.”

They are now staring down the barrel of equalling the unwanted 30-year-old club record of going 12 games without a victory in the Premier League.
