Done deal: Eight-goal winger admits to a transfer amid Newcastle United agreement: “Great club”

Newcastle United winger Yankuba Minteh is open to remaining at Feyenoord next season.

The Magpies signed the 19-year-old from Danish outfit Odense Boldklub last summer in a deal worth a reported £7million. He was immediately loaned to Feyenoord and impressed greatly in recent weeks. Minteh has made 28 appearances in total and netted eight times, four of which have come in his previous three matches.

Feyenoord technical director Dennis te Kloese claims discussions with Newcastle over the Gambian’s future will take place in April, and the player himself admitted he is prepared to stay put.

Speaking after his strike in Feyenoord’s 3-0 win against Heracles, Minteh said: “If I have the opportunity to stay here, then of course I’ll stay, because it’s a great club.”

Magpies boss Eddie Howe spoke about the prospect of recalling Minteh in January amid the number of injuries but there was no automatic call-back clause. A decision has not yet been made on whether Minteh will be part of Howe’s first-team plans for the 2024-25 season or go out on loan again.

Asked as recently as Friday if a close eye was being kept on Minteh’s progress, Howe replied: “Of course. We keep an eye on all of our loan players that are attached to us and on loan.
