Gareth Southgate was full of admiration for the winger when the squad was announced on Thursday, in particular saying: “He’s had a very good season. Has got goals against some of the big teams as well, which for us is very interesting to see.” Gordon will join up with the England squad on Monday after Newcastle United take on Manchester City in the FA Cup on Saturday (5:30pm kick-off.)Newcastle United duo Bruno Guimaraes and Anthony Gordon. England are set to take on Brazil (23 March) and Belgium (26 March) in friendlies in preparation for this summer’s Euros- a fact Guimaraes was keen to remind his teammate about.

The 23-year-old is one of Premier League’s most in-form wingers with his goal during the recent 3-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers taking his goalscoring tally to 10 for the season.

But Gordon was substituted early in the first half during United’s 3-2 defeat to Chelsea on Monday as the England manager looked on. This caused a lot of doubt surrounding Gordon’s first senior call-up.

However after speculation, it appears the winger has avoided serious injury and is fit enough to join up with the squad and feature for United on Saturday.
